Townhouses are often found in the same type of residential compounds as villas in desirable communities located close to international schools.

Often they are double height and attached to other dwellings and with smaller gardens. Some have large balconies and space for parking outside. Although smaller than villas, they still come with the heated bathroom floors and large living areas. They can often be better located in the city too, with townhouses available in popular expat living districts in Shanghai.

They offer the same amenities and facilities as the larger villas but with a more affordable price tag. These are seen as an option between apartments and larger villas.
