Staying for the festive season in Shanghai or celebrating Chinese New Year? Shanghai glams up for every occasion.
Christmas
Shanghai has a plethora of Christmas markets to get you in the festive spirit.
Christkindlmarkt at Paulaner Brauhaus
Now in its 8th Year, this wildly popular three-day market sells traditional Christmas gifts to help with the festive shopping season. Mulled wine and traditional wurst are available while you soak up the atmosphere.
German Christmas Market
Located down at the South Bund/West Bund area, this new Christmas Market suns for a month and features a huge central Christmas tree.
Chinese New Year
Yuyuan Gardens
Chinese New Year would not be complete without a trip to Yu Gardens. Stock up on hongbaos (red envelopes) for your ayi and friends, or find a double happiness sticker to place on your door, this place has it all.
Your street
The best fireworks show will not be on the Bund or in Lujiazui, the best fireworks shows happen at midnight in your own local community when everyone comes out of their home and lets off firecrackers. Its chaotic, manic and wonderfully magical!
Western New Year
The Bund is the only place to be when the traditional New Year starts. Find a spot at one of the many Bund restaurants and bars with a roof terrace, and watch as a spectacular laser and firework show take place along the river.
Bonfire Night
The only place in the city where you can enjoy bonfire night is at The British International School Shanghai, Pudong Campus. This event which is co-hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce features a large bonfire with fireworks and refreshments.
