Brunches are an institution in Shanghai. From lavish spreads at the Waldorf Astoria to more modest fare at Sumerian, everyone brunches on the weekend.

    Mr Pancake House

    877 Wuding Rd, Jing'an

    With its 3 locations around Shanghai, mostly within the French Concession and Jing'An, this small eatery serves huge portions of pancakes, with fruit and free flow coffee. It gets extremely busy here, but is a good spot for taking children who will like the fun menu and cosy atmosphere. Very good value for money makes it a regular spot for many.

    Sumerian

    415 Shanxi Bei Lu

    Grown up coffee house, popular with hipsters. Amazing selection of coffee and simple bagels make this place a simple weekend hangout and perfect for people watching. Friendly owner often there chatting with customers.

    Kaiba Taphouse 

    Lane 248 Taikang Lu, near Sinan Lu

    One for the parents. This boozy brunch clocks in at 160RMB with free flow Belgian Beer and one of the venues signature dishes. The lofty Tianzifang space is a particular favourite for their Kegs N' Eggs special. Booking not necessary.

    Jade on 36 at Shangri La Pudong

    Here you are given the option of going directly to the kitchen to select your dishes resulting in an unusual but exciting dining experience. At 758 RMB per person it represents great value for riverside dining.

    Waldorf Astoria

    2 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, The Bund

    Brunch at the Waldorf Astoria is a treat for those special occasions. Coming it at 888RMB per person, the free flow champagne sets the tone of the meal well.  Beginning brunch in the beautiful and historic Long Bar, you are served oysters and caviar, before being taken to the Brasserie 2 hours later.
